The purpose of the project is to expand and upgrade the 79 km long Howard's Pass Access Road to a two lane gravel road. The road is located in the southwestern NWT in the Mackenzie Mountains. The road starts at km 188 of the Nahanni Range Road, near Cantung, and extends north to the Yukon Border. About half of the road is in the Nahanni and Naats'ihcho'oh National Park Reserves. During construciton, proposed activities include clearing the right of way, upgrades to bridges and culverts, and extraction of borrow materials. During operations the road will be used to construct the mine in the Yukon, haul lead and zinc concentrates from the mine site south and consumables such as fuel and milling reagents from the south to the mine site.
