Information for the Media
The Review Board is a public institution committed to transparency, fairness, and independence in its decision making under the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA).
This guidance explains how media organizations and members of the public can request information or interviews with the Review Board and outlines the limits that apply due to the Board’s quasi‑judicial role. This guidance applies to all forms of media, including print, broadcast, digital publications, podcasts, and online news platforms.
Media and Interview Requests
All media and interview requests should be directed to the Review Board’s Executive Director. This helps ensure timely, accurate, and consistent responses. To arrange a meeting or interview with the Executive Director, please contact our Administration and Records clerk at (867 )766-7060.
Guidance for media about attending and covering specific events, like hearings, will be provided in advance of the event on our Public Registry.
For Ongoing Assessments
All information relevant to ongoing assessments is posted to our Public Registry. Since the Review Board is a quasi‑judicial decision‑maker, there are certain limits on what the Board can and cannot discuss for ongoing assessments. For example:
- Board members and staff do not comment on matters currently before the Board, and do not speculate on possible outcomes
- For ongoing proceedings staff may only provide procedural information.
- Submissions, evidence, and decisions speak for themselves and are available on the Public Registry
The Review Board may, however, provide:
- information about the Board’s mandate and role
- explanations about the environmental assessment process
- procedural information including publicly available timelines and next steps
- guidance on how to access documents on our Public Registry
If you seek clarification is needed on a specific submission or technical report, media are encouraged to contact the organization or individual who provided the information directly.
After Decisions Are Issued
Once a decision or report has been issued, the Executive Director may speak about the decision. However, commentary will focus on the Board’s reasons and process, not advocacy or interpretation beyond the written decision.
