The CER has partnered with the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board on a new process coordination framework to better coordinate regulatory activities and improve efficiency.
The framework outlines regulatory and environmental assessment opportunities between the CER and the MVEIRB, which will help us save time, reduce costs, and improve overall efficiency when reviewing projects in the Mackenzie Valley. It applies to proposed developments in the region that fall under the CER’s regulatory responsibilities and require an environmental assessment by the MVEIRB, as outlined in the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA).
This new framework lays the foundation for enhanced cooperation between our two organizations. It encourages shared planning, public engagement, information sharing, and even joint public hearings. By working together more closely, we can increase transparency, reduce duplication, promote regulatory efficiency, and ensure communities and rights holders are meaningfully involved throughout the process.
