Indian and Northern Affairs has referred Canadian Zinc Corporation’s proposed Prairie Creek lead-zinc mine and supporting transfer facility developments for an environmental assessment. INAC referred this proposed development on its own and on behalf of the Nahanni Butte Dene Band, on the basis there might be significant adverse impacts on the environment.
Canadian Zinc is proposing an underground lead-zinc mine and milling operations in the Dehcho region, 90 kilometres northwest of Nahanni Butte.
The online public registry for the environmental assessment is: EA0809-002
