Role Overview
The EA Policy Advisor develops, implements, and monitors policies and programs that guide the Review Board’s work. The role includes conducting research, providing policy advice, supporting operational planning, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to advance policy initiatives and communications.
Reporting to the Manager, EA Policy and Planning, the EA Policy Advisor supports the development and implementation of environmental assessment policies, guidelines, and operational tools. The role provides research, analysis, and advice to ensure environmental assessments are conducted in accordance with legislation, Board procedures, and best practices.
This position requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with development and review environmental assessment policies and procedures
- Conduct policy research and environmental scanning
- Provide advice and support on environmental assessment files
- Review legislation, regulations, land use plans, and land claim/self-government agreements
- Assist with cooperative agreements, operational documents, and communications materials
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and regulatory forums
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Resource Management, Policy Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Knowledge of environmental impact assessment in the Mackenzie Valley context
- Strong research, legislative review, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience with regulatory or quasi-judicial bodies is an asset
